Canna Robert Kemp

Canna is a robust, rhizomatous plant native to the tropics. A large plant, but its height varies between 60 cm and 150 cm, depending on the size of the rhizome and the place and conditions in which it is grown. Its leaves are impressive, large, broad, slightly glossy and broadly lance-shaped. A strong, upward-pointing flower stem rises from the foliage, on which its dark red flowers form a cluster. It prefers sun and well-structured, nutrient-rich soil. Its water needs are moderate. The rhizomes are frost-sensitive, so they need to be overwintered in a sheltered place. It looks impressive as a standalone plant, in a pot or combined with other perennials.
